‘I’m Gonna Die’ – Final Texts Between Victim and Mother During Orlando Shooting

“Mommy I love you,” was one of the text messages sent by Eddie Justice to his mother during the Orlando Shooting. “He coming,” Justice typed out as he hid in a bathroom while 29-year-old Omar Mateen gunned down clubgoers Saturday night. “I’m gonna die.”
The messages had woken Eddie Justice’s mother, Mina Justice, from her sleep. “Are you hurt?” she asked him. “Yes,” he replied. They conversed over the phone and then through text messages again. Eddie Justice told his mother to call the police, so she called and reported the shooting. They texted back and forth until he wrote out that the shooter was in the bathroom with him. “He’s a terror,” Eddie Justice wrote. Then his text messages stopped.
Eddie Justice’s name was one of the 10 names on the list of officially reported deaths released this morning. The shooting was the biggest terror attack since 9/11 and the deadliest mass shooting in American history. And while Mina Justice got to talk to her son one last time before his death, investigators describe a crime scene in which cell phones are constantly ringing on the bodies of the fallen – most likely calls from loved ones to see if they are okay.
